Birdies RoadhouseVarnado
The most authentic road house in the country. Born from the dreams, sweat, blood and tears of two of the finest purveyors of live music in the country. If walls could talk, those at Birdies Roadhouse would have quite a story to tell. A “gumbo” of music, friendship and good times. During the Mardi Gras season of 1982, Sandy and Sam, two classy bartenders met. One, dressed in a toga draped in dripping grapes, the other in a possessed “psycho clown” costume. That chance meeting began an ongoing partnership. After entertaining Washington Parish, many parties, and many costumes later, their dreams came true. The land came first. A piece of property on Highway 21, zoned for a club. Then the house. A 1936 double shotgun house donated by friends. Then , the Reverend E.J Williams( aka Wild Bill and His Crazy Organ),who played many years on Bourbon Street in his youth. He moved her, he really moved her. Then came the transformation: a long four months of lots of hard work donated by friends and family; lots of blood, sweat and beers. Birdies Roadhouse: The little house with THE BIG SOUND. Featuring good times all the time.
